Southampton Creative Histories Writing Group
Sat 27th Feb 2021, 10:00am - 12:00pm
We’d like to invite you to join us on a new project as we delve deeper into GHT’s past and reimagine some of the hidden histories within the walls.
This is the first in a series of creative workshops we will be developing as GHT embarks on a new chapter to support creative people in the city and bring a variety of homegrown art forms and talent to the public.
We hope to inspire and support your creativity, working to bring together artists and writers to develop a new anthology of written word which captures people and place.
In monthly sessions facilitated by local writer, historian and artist Nazneen Ahmed, we will discuss and unpick some of the fascinating moments in GHT’s history and the people who have passed through it. We hope to share ideas, open up stories for people who may not have visited GHT before and offer GHT as a home for this creative community.
As a contributor to this project, you’ll have first access to GHT before it is reopened to the public, at first digitally through online zoom sessions until we are able to safely host you in the building again.
We will also be supplying the materials for you to work from and be inspired by; Transition – a photo essay of GHT’s renovation and Powder Prisoners and Painters – a comprehensive history of GHT by Dr Cheryl Butler.
Please see below the scheduled sessions with Nazneen:
Saturday 27 Feb 2021 10:00-12:00
Saturday 27 March 2021 10:00-12:00
Saturday 24 April 2021 10:00-12:00
Saturday 29 May 2021 10:00-12:00
Join us for one session or all four. These sessions are open for all to learn, experiment and try something new.
Registration has now closed for the first session but if you would still like to join us please email hannah@aspacearts.org.uk
