Calling all Volunteers!

God’s House Tower (GHT) is recruiting enthusiastic and engaging individuals to support the team and the activity at God’s House Tower, assisting us to deliver high standards of customer service and support us through our relaunch in 2021. Our volunteers are the key to GHT fulfilling its mission of allowing heritage to inspire the arts and to offer a chance to engage our local communities in this fascinating part of our city’s history.

Since having to shut the doors in March 2020 we have been reshaping our programme and carving out a new role for GHT which focuses much more on local audiences, local communities and sharing stories of Southampton’s people past and present. We are really excited to start launching some of these activities in January, online or in small groups in the building at first, and this new focus will continue when we reopen and run alongside our contemporary art programme.

Your role will be varied and shaped by your strengths and interests, whether you are best suited to sharing your knowledge of the building front of house or helping us shape our customer’s experience behind the scenes. We value and appreciate all expertise and in return can offer a fulfilling and enjoyable experience for our team of volunteers.

What to expect as a GHT volunteer:

  • Regular training opportunities focussed on empowering, upskilling and enabling you to fulfil your ambitions as a volunteer
  • An opportunity to meet and work alongside people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • A varied and involved role which can be adapted to suit your strengths and interests.

Having revised our volunteer roles we are looking for volunteers with an interest in one or a combination of the following areas:

Heritage Heroes – responsible for tours, information around the building and all things heritage

Gallery Volunteers – responsible for invigilating and conducting tours around the gallery spaces, sharing information about the artists and the work to visitors and ensuring the galleries are well maintained.

Media Volunteers – helping us with social media, writing blog posts, conducting interviews and creating online content

Community Volunteers – helping us spread the word out and about, acting as advocates for GHT in the community and assisting us with our projects and events in the community, off-site and onsite.

Retail Volunteers – helping us run and maintain the online shop and the shop in the GHT foyer, helping us to promote the shop and keep it in the public eye and keeping an eye out for new artists to recruit and add their work to the shop.

To register your interest as a GHT volunteer please fill in the online application form HERE.

From time to time we may also have opportunities to assist the ‘a space’ team behind the scenes with everything from marketing to finance and event planning. If this is what you’re looking for please fill in the form above and tell us a bit about your experience to date and what you’re hoping to learn.

If you need assistance filling in this form or would like to receive this information in a more accessible format please contact hannah@aspacearts.org.uk

We acknowledge and value experience and skills from people of all backgrounds.
