Join us for talks, workshops and performances that explore the 2019 / 2020 theme, GHT: Beside the Sea. All the art on display in GHT until August 2020 takes as inspiration GHT’s historic location on the Southampton’s iconic coastline, and the dramatic industrial changes that now place the building inland.

Where once gunners defended the town from French ships sailing up the Solent, where the Mayflower set sail across the sea, and where author Jane Austen took her morning strolls along the beach in Southampton’s heyday as a spa town, now traffic, industry and retail have staked their claim along the coast.

Highlights include Keith Harrison’s performative closing event for ‘Bloom’, workshops with some of the best emerging artists working in the south today, and a lecture from curator Tim Craven on ‘the romantic thread in British art.’
