Heritage Events

Heritage: Live! is a programme of events all inspired by the 2019 / 2020 theme, GHT: Beside the Sea.

The talks, workshops and events put GHT into context, from its time as a cornerstone of the medieval town’s walls, to its time as one of the worst jails in England in the 17-1800s, to Southampton’s heyday as a 19th century spa town.

Highlights include BBC Radio 4’s Natalie Haynes, who will be at GHT to talk about her new book, lectures from Southampton University academics, poetry workshops with Artful Scribe, and theatre nights with the Sarah Siddons Fan Club.

You can also combine a trip to GHT with a guided tour of Southampton Old Town, with Southampton Tour Guide Association.

The Tower exhibition, Stories Behind the Stones, is a four-storey immersive experience, telling the story of GHT from the sacking of Southampton in 1338, to modern-day views of the reclaimed land which now makes up the Port of Southampton and the contemporary coastline.
