About Sophie Rawlingson

Sophie began working as a digital illustrator who then brought illustrations to life with hand embroidery. As her artistic practice developed, she started experimenting with new materials, making wooden sculptures and paintings. Regardless of the medium, Sophie’s work is centred around flowers, taking inspiration from botanical designs from the Arts & Crafts movement and folk-art, but also sci-fi stories of plants that fight back. Sophie’s illustrative style is the result of lots of stylistic iteration over the years, putting a modern spin on older art styles, making her work feel familiar to people, while still being something new.

Sophie Rawlingson is part of our new Artist Shop Cohort. This year’s shop features nine Hampshire-based artists working across a wide range of mediums and styles. Over the next nine months, audiences will be able to purchase the artists’ work and take part in workshops and events, learning directly from the artists themselves.
