Project Extinction is a newly-commissioned, collaborative artwork made by BA Fine Art students at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.

The artwork is a large-scale flat pack sculpture in the shape of a ceratosuchops dinosaur. Hidden in the the body of the beast are smaller artworks, individual contributions from the students involved.

“We are a group of Fine Art students from the Winchester School of Art, who were given the opportunity by God’s House Tower to design and create a collaborative installation piece, that would then become a part of the Hidden in Stone exhibition. As a collective, we are aiming to build a large-scale interpretation of the ceratosuchops dinosaur. Alongside this, we will be displaying a selection of smaller artworks that will explore and expand upon the themes of the exhibition.

Our goal as a collective is to bridge the relationship with art and science. Through accessibility and visual communication, we aspire to create an immersive and exciting collection of works that will engage the community with Southampton’s hidden history.”

Exhibiting artists: Courtney Madley, Grace Atkins, Lucy Grant, Abby Dixon, Brooke Apicella, Lisa Babbé, Jason Kwong, Jess Moorhouse, Katarina Kemp, Anzhi Xie and Carla Hay

This installation is part of Hidden In Stone, an exhibition about shifting continents, changing climates, and evolutionary radiation spanning 200 million years of life on the South Coast.
