Come and join us on Saturday 29th June to celebrate the launch of our latest exhibition Holding Space by Anna Bunting-Branch.

Holding Space is an exhibition by Anna Bunting-Branch, commissioned by ‘a space’ arts. The work is informed by the artist’s ongoing research into childlessness, which engages feminist practice and science fiction as a methodology to re-vision how the future is conceived.

An animation is exhibited in the Barker-Mill Project Space. It explores the complex relationship between climate emergency, pro-natalism (social structures that promote or enforce childbearing), and reproductive refusal (the active decision not to have children).

In the Main Gallery Space, Anna has responded directly to the architecture and history of God’s House Tower, exploring ways of entwining the narrative threads of her work into the rich fabric of the building.

During the course of the exhibition, Anna will be hosting ‘small group’ meetings in the space to build a sense of collective enquiry and establish roots of a community that can continue to meet and support each other in the future. The group will respond to questions such as – how do we define ‘environment’ and ‘climate’, locally and globally? What does ‘pro-natalism’ mean for us personally and politically? What does it mean to ‘reproduce’ and what does it mean for us to ‘refuse’? How do we conceive the future in the face of the climate emergency?

Holding Space will be on display at God’s House Tower Friday 28th June – Sunday 18th August 2024.
