Dr Clifford Williams (author of an ‘A-Z of Queer Hampshire’ and ‘Courage to Be’) will be hosting a series of talks on LGBT History.
Topics will include ‘Gay Life in Southampton 1970-2000′, ’50th Anniversary of Campaign for Homosexual Equality Conference in Southampton 1976’ and ‘Gay Life at Sea – Records of Merchant Navy Gay Life’, co -hosted by Emily Beswick, curator of photographic collections at the Liverpool Maritime Museum.
What to Expect:
- 10.30am – Event Begins – Intro and Talk 1 (Gay Life in Southampton 1970-2000)
- 11.30am – Break
- 12:00pm – Talk 2 (50th Anniversary of Campaign for Homosexual Equality Conference in Southampton 1976)
- 12.45pm – Lunch Break
- 13:30pm – Talk 3 co-hosted with Emily Beswick (Gay Life at Sea – Records of Merchant Navy Gay Life
- 15:30pm – Q and A with Clifford and Emily
Access and Quiet Spaces:
This talk will be taking place in the Crawford Room which does not have step free access.
GHT is a 25-minute walk from Southampton Central Train station and is on a number of local bus routes. Our closest car parks are Gloucester Square and Mayflower park. This part of the city can get very busy with traffic from the cruise ship terminals at this time of year so please do allow for extra time if you’re driving.
